How can I support my child at home?

Reading

Children will read with an adult in school once a week - please make sure they bring their reading record and book every day.

Reading at home is really important and will support your child's progress. Please read with your child 3 times a week and share their successes in the reading record provided.

Phonics

The current scheme we use for teaching phonics is Floppy's Phonics. Here are some links to fun games which enhance the phonics teaching and learning in school and support your child's reading skills for the Phonic Screening assessment in June. They are compatible with tablets, iPads and most smartphones. Please click on the links and explore with your child:

1. PhonicsPlay - Resources

2. Phonics Games for the Classroom and Home - Phonics Bloom

Play phases 3, 4 and 5.

Year Group Events

22nd April at 2:45-3:15

An opportunity to attend the Phonics Screening parents meeting if you missed the one in March. This explains the upcoming national reading check in June

From 8th January, the children will be practising 6 spelling words a week. These consist of four common exception words and two words which follow the phonic sounds we have taught the previous week. Please help your child to practise at home. They can do this by: look, say, cover, write, check.
